Playground Scat: Mystery Solved- The French Gulch Fox That Mosied into the Cage

Mr. Painter, the school janitor/custodian caught a fox on his property on Tuesday that he brought to the French Gulch School. The Common Gray Fox was gray, with slight red behind its ears, a whitish paw, and was very scared when Mr. Painter brought him; the fox was wild and active in the cage. This species lives along the Pacific, from Canada to Northern California. We found scat around the campus from the fox from which we could tell had eaten berries and little rodents. The way that Mr. Painter caught the fox was to put a ground squirrel in the steel cage trap. The reason Mr. Painter caught the fox was because he was trying to catch the ring-tail that he thinks had been eating the eggs from his chickens. He is going to let the fox go because it is not a threat to the eggs. This fox was interesting and cute but is a wild animal that could be dangerous.
